Two colours. For four.

You can always combine two colours on the smart EQ forfour. This makes numerous combinations possible. A real head-turner in city traffic – and anything but a run-of-the-mill electric car.

Four seats. And plenty of space to feel at home in.

The extensive fabric-covered surfaces conjure up an atmosphere that is a world apart from the no-frills drabness of many other cars. Typically smart:the dynamic sweep and the honeycomb pattern.

Rear seats.

In the rear you can choose between a continuous rear bench or the optional readyspace seats. These are particularly practical when you need a bit of extra stowage space: it is a simple matter to swivel the seat cushions to the footwell and fold down the backrests.

Dashboard instrument.

Shows you the battery charge status at a glance – and whether the vehicle is consuming or recuperating energy.

Instrument cluster.

Provides information about available range and the car's eco score: this is a display that helps you to maintain a consistent and efficient driving style. The instrument cluster takes the form of an 3.5-inch TFT colour display offering a wealth of additional information.

Radar-based recuperation

The kinetic energy of the vehicle is used to charge the high-voltage battery via recuperation as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator pedal. The radar-based recuperation goes one step further: a radar sensor monitors the traffic in front of the vehicle and automatically selects the optimum recuperation level. This ensures more ride comfort and optimised use of the kinetic energy.

Pre-entry climate control

This enables you to raise or lower the temperature of your smart to a pleasant level before you set off, via smartphone or tablet. This saves energy: as long as your smart is still connected to the mains for charging, climate control takes place without depleting the battery charge – and you benefit from added range.

Winter package

With enhanced insulation, heated multifunction steering wheel and heated seats for driver and front passenger, this package provides for a pleasant interior climate. In this way you can reduce the heating output for the benefit of added range – without getting cold.

Stowage.

If you need to recharge while you're out and about, you'll find more and more charging stations all over the UK - from motorway service stations to supermarkets and public car parks, most of which support your smart's Type 2 connector. So if your battery’s running low, you'll never have to look too far for a top-up.

The smart EQ fortwo coupé is equipped with a high-capacity on-board charger as standard. To recharge your vehicle, simply connect it to a Wallbox or public charging point. The connector is locked into position automatically. An LED above the charge socket indicates that the charging process has been started.

The 3-phase charging cable for the Wallbox or public charging stations comes as standard. You can also opt for the charging cable for domestic power sockets, which enables you to charge your vehicle at virtually any standard domestic power socket*. If you would like greater flexibility, the optional charging cable package includes both variants.

*If you are planning to charge your smart EQ electric vehicle using a 3-pin domestic plug socket you must get a qualified electrician to inspect and sign off the socket to confirm it is safe and suitable to charge your vehicle. Do not use a electric vehicle 3-pin charge cable with an extension cord.

After use, the charging cable can be stowed securely and compactly away in the boot using the charging cable bag which is provided as standard.

High-voltage battery.

The positioning of the high-voltage battery in a robust frame set into the vehicle underbody offers the best possible protection from deformation in the event of a collision. To ensure that occupants never come into contact with high voltage, all connectors are shock-proof. All the battery's safety functions are additionally subject to ongoing monitoring. And should it ever actually come to a crash, the high-voltage elements switch themselves off.

tridion safety cell.

Much in the same way that a nut is protected by its hard shell, the tridion safety cell made of 75 percent high-strength steel keeps its contents safe from harm. In conjunction with further components such as crash boxes and deformation elements, the tridion safety cell ensures maximum safety in a minimum space.

Airbags.

As well as airbags for the driver and front passenger, the smart EQ fortwo and forfour models come with a kneebag for the driver, two pelvis/thorax bags in the backrests of the driver's and front passenger seats and windowbags, which deploy over the windows on the side of the vehicle affected by the impact.

Acoustic presence indicator.

Electric driving is surprisingly quiet. To avoid you surprising other road users, the optional acoustic presence indicator takes effect at speeds below 17 mph. A discreet sound appropriate to the given driving situation ensures a better awareness of your vehicle's presence and improves safety for all road users.

Active Brake Assist.

This system scans the traffic in front of you an alerts you to an impending risk of collision with visual and audible warnings. It will actively intervene to brake the vehicle at speeds over 30 km/h in emergencies.

In addition to charging at a wallbox, the electric smart vehicles equipped with the 22 kW on-board charger with fast-charging function (908) can alternatively be charged at a domestic power socket. The charging time of the fast charger using a domestic power socket is longer than the standard solution due to the lower efficiency. If you wish to charge your electric smart at a domestic socket in an older building or in the vicinity of industrial plants, we recommend having your domestic socket checked for suitability by a qualified electrician beforehand. The wallbox design may differ. Please contact your smart dealer for further information. Availability of services can vary depending on the model and equipment.
